FEDAIA PASS, DOLOMITES, ITALY, 27 MAY, 2023: Rifugio Castiglioni Marmolada at Fedaia pass, Trentino, Italy. #281133190
Description
Built in the early 20th century by Bavarian mountaineers from Bamberg, the Rifugio Castiglioni Marmolada was bombed during World War II and then rebuilt in the thirties by the Milan branch of CAI (Italian Mountaineering Club). The refuge is dedicated to mountaineer Ettore Castiglioni and its dining room windows afford a magnificent view of the Marmolada, Queen of the Dolomites, its north side covered by the glacier whose meltwaters flow into Lake Fedaia in summer. The decor (carefully maintained over the years) evokes a mountain atmosphere of times gone. The Fedaia Pass is a mountain pass traversed by a paved road in the Dolomiti Range in Northern Italy. It lies at the northern base of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the region and the Dolomiti. It is known for its beauty and for Lago Fedaia.
