The Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is a A biennial or short-lived perennial, freely self-sowing found in woodland clearings and cottage gardens and is a valuable source of nectar for bees. Despite it's beauty, it is a poisonous species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae, native to and widespread throughout most of temperate Europe. A medical extract of Digitalis purpurea, Digoxin, is prescribed for heart failure. Digitalis lanata and other plants. Digoxin is a steroid glycoside and is used in small doses as a cardiac stimulant.
