Pedestrian access tunnel Arco da sloth, or Arco da Conceição in Lisbon #282125807
Description
Pedestrian access tunnel Arco da sloth, or Arco da Conceição in downtown Lisbon. Documented since 1456, this wicket (small gate for pedestrians), was probably opened to allow access to the Fonte Nova (New Fountain), located on the wall's external face. In the 16th century, this water supply source was known as Fonte Nova da Porta do Mar (New Sea Gate Fountain), or Fonte da Preguiça (Preguiça Fountain), the name by which the arch was known. In 1755 it was known as Arco da Conceição (Arch of the Conception).
