The Citadel of Rosas is the walled enclosure that formerly protected the city of Rosas (province of Gerona, Catalonia, Spain), founded as a Greek colony under the name of Rode in the Gulf of Rosas (the northeastern end of the Spanish coast). Despite the phonetic similarity, the identification of that name with that of the Greek island of Rhodes has not been proven, nor is the fact that the Greeks who founded this colony were Rhodians. Neither the time of its foundation, which literary sources place in the eighth century BC. C., while archaeological sources link to the nearby Emporion
