USS San Francisco Memorial Lands End San Francisco 2 #284002499
Description
With the Japanese unprovoked attack on the American Naval base at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941,the Americans were officially in the war the very next day. The Island of Guadalcanal became the center of a major battle starting on 7 August 1942 between Japan and America and the rest of the Allied forces. The USS San Francisco was one of the ships sent early on. The ship was lost during battle, taking all seven Marines and 100 sailors. When the bridge of the ship was recovered,as the ship was named for the city of San Francisco,it was sent there as a permanent memorial. As can be found at Lands End. As seen 12 February 2018.
