Amritsar: 5th May 2018: Beautiful view of the Golden temple. The Golden Temple,also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib,is a famous Sikh temple located in the city of Amritsar in the state of Punjab,India. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country and is also considered the holiest shrine of Sikhism.The temple was built in the 16th century by the fourth Sikh Guru,Guru Ram Das. The construction of the temple was completed by his successor,Guru Arjan Dev. The temple was built in the middle of a man-made lake,called the Amrit Sarovar.The most distinctive feature of the temple is its dome,which is covered in gold leaf. This gives the temple its name,the Golden Temple. The temple is also surrounded by a white marble walkway,which is used by pilgrims who come to pay their respects.The temple complex includes several other important buildings,including the Akal Takht,which is the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
