Title
Buddhist monk on a colonial bridge, Cambodia #28493554
Description
Traditionally, Buddhist monks leave their monastery everyday morning to go for food. They carry metal food containers and people who want to support them offer them food. Before donating food people pray to monks. Here a young monk walks bare foot an old French colonial bridge in Battambang town in East Cambodia. The railway system in Cambodia was built during French times in Cambodia, and it collapsed during Khmer Rouge times. Now people use the railway system to walk or travel by simple wooden trolleys. Buddhism in Cambodia was destroyed by Pol Pot. Many monks were killed and slaved. Now, the population of monks is growing in Cambodia, and the majority of them are young men.
