Old mill in Archaeological Parc of Populonia, Italy #28525012
Description
The Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, opened on 11th July 1998, houses one of the most important contexts of Etruscan civilisation, which owes its own commercial and cultural development principally to the steel and iron activity. There are two parts in the park. The Poggio del Molino is situated in the Parco Archeologico Acropoli. The windmill was used for grinding wheat. Since most of the upper structure is lost, its identification as a windmill is based on the presence of square holes in the outer wall, designed for the beams which supported the mechanism of the millstone inside.
