Pictured are the left lateral wall mosaics inside the Basilica of Sant Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna, Italy. On the upper band are 13 small mosaics, depicting Jesus' miracles and parables. The next row of mosaics are a scheme of sixteen haloed saints, prophets and evangelists, executed in the Hellenistic-Roman tradition. The row below starts with the port of Classe with three ships. Then we see the beginning half of the procession of 22 virgins in Byzantine style, lacking any individuality, having all identical expressions. The Basilica was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
