Description
Pictured is a mosaic in the apse of the Chapel of Ursula in the Basilica of Saint James in Bellagio, Italy. The mosaic is the work of the firm Castemari of Venice. It goes back to the first decade of 1900. Ursula was a virgin and martyr. She was shot with an arrow and the 11,000 virgins beheaded in a massacre by the Huns in about 383 AD. The Basilica of Saint James is a Romanesque 12th century church which is the landmark church of Bellagio in the Province of Como in the Italian region of Lombard.
