Pictured is the Madonna and Child painting in the center of the main altar of the Church of St. Mary of Graces on the central square of Varenna on Lake Como in the province of Lecco in the Italian region of Lombardy. The Baroque wooden altar, with two helical columns, came from the Oratory of Villa Monastero in 1896. It was made by Giovan Pietro Capiago from Como in 1681. The little church was originally dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene and St. Anthony of Padua when it was inaugurated on September 8th, 1685. When the oratory of Villa Monastero was moved there in 1896 and the the church was restored, it took the title Church of Saint Mary of Graces.
