Exhibition of Jewish European Refugees Housed in Shanghai from 1938 to 1945, NYC, Aug., 2023 #287207185
Description
An exhibition of over 200 photos and items of memorabilia of over 20,000 European Jews fleeing Nazi oppression on the eve of WW Two, took place at Folsun Plaza, 28 Liberty Street, in the financial district of Lower Manhattan from August 1-14, 2023. The show was organized by several Chinese-affiliated organizations including the Chinese Jewish Refugees Museum. Entitled 'Shanghai, Homeland Once Upon a Time: Jewish Refugees and Shanghai.' The theme of the production was the universal message of giving aid and succor to those fleeing persecution and oppression. Here, visitors could contemplate an inspiring intergenerational sculpture and the engraved names of most of the more than 20,000 European Jews who sought refuge in the tiny, cramped Hongkou district of Shanghai which became the Jewish ghetto.
