Pictured is tile mural depicting the brutal murder of Father Nicholas Tamaral on the exterior of the Mission of San Jose del Cabo Anuiti in Saint Joseph of the Cape in southern Baja California Sur state, Mexico. The mission was built in 1730 by the Jesuit missionary Father Nicholas Tarmaral and the Spanish appointed official Jose Echeverria. The mission was dedicated to Saint Joseph, and was built on the site that the native pericues called Anuiti. Father Tamaral died during the so-called Rebellion of the Pericúes, which took place in the autumn of 1734. The Indians reportedly tied him up, dragged him, fired several arrows at him and then topped him with a long knife.
