Description

Pictured is the left of two lioness sculptures by sculptor Edward Clark Potter flanking the 36th Street entrance of The Morgan Library & Museum in New York City, New York. Potter was born in 1857 and died in 1923. Potter sculpted a lioness in clay, then made plaster models to guide the stonecutter, who worked with large blocks of Tennessee marble. Potter likely hired John Grignola, and accomplished Italian immigrant carver, to execute the work in 1903.
