During the fourth quarter of the 2023 season opener for both Rutgers and Northwestern in an NCAA Division 1 football contest, viewers of the nationally televised game on CBS are afforded a closer view from above of what appears to be a player felled temporarily from an onfield injury. The device used to achieve this image is called an NFL SkyCam. It is really a floating computer controlled and stabilized cable0suspended camera system. The digital camera is 36 inches tall and weighs 451 pounds. By this point in the game the temperature on the field was about 100 degrees as the air temperature was about 90 degrees. Although efforts are made by their staffs to keep the athletes hydrated, it is not uncommon for the extremely hot conditions to make injuries and cramping more common. In any case, the new technology enables television viewers to receive an enhanced view from an improved visual perspective. The contest venue is SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey on September 3, 2023.
