Kylemore Castle, built in 1871 with seventy rooms in 3,700 square metres, was built by a wealthy London doctor, later MP for County Galway. In 1920, Irish Benedictine nuns bought the Abbey Castle and grounds after being forced to flee Belgium in World War I. They operated a farm and a girls' boarding school. Ireland.
