Part of the 55 foot tall Chief Johnson totem pole, a re-creation of a historic totem pole that stood mere feet away which was carved by Tlingit Israel Shotridge. It marks the entrance to the historic Creek Street section of Ketchikan, Alaska, a popular summer cruise ship port of call. Totem poles like this are an important cultural icon for a number of native peoples in the Pacific Northwest and are found throughout the area.
