Lincoln Park Golf Courses San Francisco 12 #290190923
Description

What is today the 100 acres Lincoln Park in San Francisco, named for the 16th president of the United States Abraham Lincoln, was originally Potters Field, also called the Golden Gate Cemetery as it was a cemetery, and Potters Field refers to the fact that most of the people buried there were indignant. Starting out as only a three hole course in 1902,it was the first golf course in the city. By 1909 the land was turned over to the Parks Department and the course was expanded to a full 18 holes. During the cemetery period,it was strictly segregated ethnically as was common for the period. The stone arch between the trees was the Chinese burial section, the original section of the golf course. Not a long course but still considered challenging because of the beautiful yet steep wind swept hills and cypress lined fairways. As seen 6 September 2023.
