The Es Tudons Naveta. Talayotic Menorca. UNESCO World Heritage 2023. Editorial Image

The small Spanish island of Menorca contains many examples of a prehistoric culture unique in the Mediterranean Sea region: small towns, tombs and cemeteries... which are called Talayotic Menorca. Since September 18, 2023, Talayotic Menorca is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the photograph we see the Es Tudons naveta, the most emblematic funerary monument in Menorca, a type of tomb that is only found on this island.It is called “naveta” because of its inverted ship shape (“naveta” means small ship in Spanish). When María Lluïsa Serra and Lluís Pericot began the excavation in 1959, they found human bones along with ceramic pieces and personal ornaments.
