California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein speaks to the congregation at Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston, New Jersey, in May, 1992. Feinstein was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors before becoming mayor upon the assassination of George Moscone in 1978, serving a 10-year tenure in office. At the time of her speech, she was 59 and running for her first term in the Senate. She was in 2018, reelected for the fifth time. She served in the Senate for 31 years, making her the longest-serving female senator in United States history. Feinstein died in her Washington, DC home on September 28, 2023, at the age of 90.
