While still a young boy in 933, he was said to have given the Duke of Saxony, Henry I the Birdman, a bag of coal dug in the forest. The situation pleased the ruler so much that he was rewarded with a knighthood and the nickname of One Who Brings Stones That Give Sparks. He also ordered him to return to Silesia, find a convenient place and build a defensive stronghold nearby to guard the black treasure from then on.
