Description
The golden headed lion faced marmoset (scientific name: Leontopithecus chrysomelas) can have a head length of up to 22-26 centimeters, a tail length of up to 40 centimeters, and a weight of between 480-700 grams. Has a striking appearance. The hair around the face is orange, longer and thicker, in the shape of a mane, which does evoke the mane of a male lion. The body hair is glossy black. Long and slender limbs with sharp claws, adept at climbing and jumping. The tail and claws appear orange. Omnivorous animals feed on various insects, spiders, moths, flies, grubs, worms, as well as the tender buds, flowers, and fruits of various plants, especially figs. Distributed only in the southern part of the Bahia Oblast in eastern Brazil.
