Grasshoppers, part of the Caelifera family, are one of the oldest herbivorous insects on the planet, going back to around 250 Million Years ago. This has given them much time to adapt to many food types by specific species. They in turn become food for yet other insects and birds. In Northern California the most common type is the Melanoplinae. As seen 14 October 2023.
