Pictured is a group of four black vultures resting on a dead tree trunk on the bank of the Grand River below the Pensacola Dam near the Grand Lake o' the Cherokees in Oklahoma. The black vulture, scientific name Coragyps atratus, is also known as the American black vulture, Mexican vulture, zopilote, urubu, and gallinazo. It has black plumage, a featherless, grayish-black head and neck, and a short, hooked beak. The black vulture is a scavenger and feeds on carrion, but will also eat eggs, small reptiles, or small newborn animals
