Description

the world's largest bronze statue of a seated Buddha.It is 34 meters high and weighs 250 tons. The statue is located on the Ngong Ping Highlands on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, in the Po Lin Monastery.The construction of the Buddha began in 1990, and it was unveiled on December 29, 1993, on the birthday of Shakyamuni Buddha. The statue, composed of 202 bronze parts, cost USD 68 million.Visitors to the statue, after purchasing a ticket, must climb 268 steep stairs to get to the base of the statue.
