Ruin at Seven Churches Inis Mor #296084173
Description
The Seven Churches on Inis Mor are a group of early Christian churches located in a remote area of Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Built between the 8th and 13th centuries, this collection of the ruins of stone buildings is a well-known tourist attraction, with busloads of tourists visiting daily. This image is inside the remnants of the main church. Its gray stone walls with narrow, slot window and arched frame, are mostly intact. Ferns, lichens, and other small, green plants have taken root in the crevices of the walls. The rocks in the stone walls vary in shade from deep charcoal gray to almost pink. On close examination, the large, weathered stone slabs on the rocky floor are engraved grave stones. The sky is cloudless blue.
