Diversity: Photo Display at Israel's 40th Anniversary Exhibition in Tel Aviv, 1988 #296115676
Description
This fisheye lens captures a large-scale display of the diversity of the immigrants and sabras, or native-born residents who make up the nation of Israel on the occasion of the Jewish state's 40th anniversary in 1988. There are well over 100 distinct lands and ethnic groups represented in Israel from virtually all parts of the globe. The nation is a bit under 75 per cent Jewish with about 20 per cent Arabs of whom the large majority are Muslim and about 2 per cent are Christian. At the time of this display, there were just a tiny trickle of Ethiopians. By 2023 there were 165,000 Ethiopian Jews residing in Israel, comprising between 1 and 2 percent of the population.
