Padaung Woman - Myanmar (Burma) #29691545
Description
Padaung or Kayan people of northern Myanmar (Burma). Padaung is a Shan term for the Kayan Lahwi. Girls first wear rings at about five years old. Over the years more are added. The weight of the brass pushes the collar bone down compressing the rib cage. The neck itself is not lengthened; the appearance of a stretched neck is created by the deformation of the clavicle.
