Television writer, producer, and political and social activist Norman Lear and then wife Frances Lear speak at a huge pro-ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) rally before scores of thousands in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois, on May 10, 1980. Both were powerful and influential feminists and were honored guests at the historic event. Norman Lear was a hugely successful television powerhouse, activist. and progressive influencer and philanthropist. Among the trailblazing sitcoms he produced were 'All in the Family, 'Maude,' 'The Jeffersons,' 'Good Times,' and 'One Day at a Time.' He even produced a hilarious daily comedy drama spoofing soap operas entitled, 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.' He won 6 Primetime Emmys the final one when he was 97. Lear died on December 5, 2023, at his Los Angeles home, at the age of 101, from natural causes
