Title
Forest fire remains with new growth #299994897
Description
Standing dead timber near Yellowstone National Park resulting from a devastating forest fire which occurred about 10-15 years before. New growth has sprung up under the old canopy made up of lodgepole pine which regenerates from cones which have been heated and opened by the fire to release the seeds within. Eventually the dead stems will fall, leaving the new trees to fill the stand without competition from other species.
