Emmy and Obie Award-winning actor Andre Braugher appears at the premiere of 'Poseidon' at the 5th Annual Tribeca Film Festival in Lower Manhattan on May 6, 2006.As an actor Braugher was renowned for his intensity and charisma, whether on television, film, or stage. He won a Primetime Emmy in 1998 for portraying a tough Baltimore detective, 'Frank Pemberton,' in 'Homicide: Life on the Street.' On the other end of the spectrum, he excelled in comedy in the latter part of his career, with his portrayal of 'Captain Raymond Holt,' in 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine.' He excelled in the acclaimed Civil War drama Glory,' opposite Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick. He garnered fine reviews for a handful of productions onstage with the New York Shakespeare Festival. Braugher earned a Masters Degree in mathematics from Stanford and an MFA from the Juilliard School in Drama in New York. Braugher passed away following a short illness(lung cancer) on December 11, 2023, at the age of 61.
