Description
African elephants are the largest land animals that belong to family Elephantidae. Classified under genus Loxodonta they have a trunk, which is a long nose used for smelling, breathing, trumpeting, drinking, and also for grabbing things. There are two living species, the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) and the smaller African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis). Both species live in groups and are social herbivores with grey skin, but differ in the size and colour of their tusks and in the shape and size of their ears and skulls.
