Description

Head of VespasianThis head depicts the emperor Vespasian (69-79 AD)with his standard sharp appearance, but with younger facial features. It seems that the head was carved in Alexandria, since it was finished in plaster or a piece of marble, Long tufts of hair hanging down the right side suggest that it originally belonged to a previous emperor, perhaps Caligula or Nero, and was re-carved for Vaspasian.
