Description
There are some of the best-preserved ruins of a Roman city in North Africa, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1982.The city was probably founded at the end of the 1st century AD. by the Roman emperor Nerva, then conquered by the Vandals and reconquered by Byzantium in 553, then finally abandoned. The first archaeological excavations began here in 1909.n the excavation area, the remains of a forum, an amphitheater, baths, a triumphal arch, temples and residential houses with numerous mosaics are visible. The ruins of later Christian basilica churches have also been preserved.
