Description
Carolina Buckthorn produces small, round drupes that are less than an inch in diameter. The fruit starts out as red and matures to black with juicy flesh. It ripens in late summer and is a favorite of wildlife, such as songbirds. Carolina Buckthorn is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers are found on separate plants. Female plants are more numerous and can begin to produce flowers and fruit as early as four years of age.
