Description
It is thought Ostia Antica, at the mouth of the river Tiber, was founded in about 335 BC as one of the very first Roman colonies. Ostia Antica became the great gateway for the Mediterranean to the city of Rome. The amphitheater is erected in 12 BC, it is a quiet, wonderfully preserved series of steep semicircular stone bleachers that hold 3500 spectators. At the background the remains of the Barracks of the Fire Brigade.
