Ruins of the Capitoleum, Ostia Antica, Italy #30158426
Description
It is thought Ostia Antica, at the mouth of the river Tiber, was founded in about 335 BC as one of the very first Roman colonies. Ostia Antica became the great gateway for the Mediterranean to the city of Rome. The Capitoleum was built during the reign of Hadrian (c. 120 AD). It has been argued that Hadrian himself and certain people close to the Imperial court contributed to the building of this important temple.
