Description
The image shows an educational marker that has been heavily vandalized. The marker is in front of Frenchman Mountain which is the site to what geologists call the Great Unconformity This site, visible from Las Vegas, Nevada, is where an extraordinary interval of the Earth's strata is exposed. The strata's were laid down over a period of 1 billion years of earth's history. The unconformity refers to the fact that several layers (strata) are missing. Geologists from around the world visit, and study, this site. Plate tectonics are responsible for pushing up the exposed mountain.
