Description
Close up of a single Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) flower on the forest floor. This spring ephemeral flower is one of the first to bloom in the spring. It gets its name from the red sap found in its roots, which contain the poison sanguinarine. Bloodroot were used as a traditional dye by Native Americans. Photographed during April in Northeast Ohio.
