Built in 1721 from mountain oak wood, it is one of eight buildings that make up the wooden churches of Maramures UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also listed as a historic monument. The church is imposing in its proportions, having a total height of 72 meters. The main tower is flanked by four smaller turrets and, with its 54 meters, makes this wooden church the tallest in the world dating from that period.
