Description
Pictured is one of a pair of six-panel folding screens depicting The Tale of Genji on display in the Dallas Museum of Art. The panel was created by Kano Naganobu using ink, color, and gold on paper. The Tale of Genji was written by Lady Murasaki Shikibu during the middle of the Heian period from 794 to 1185 CE, and is considered the world's first novel. The pair of panels depict ten of the tale's fifty-four chapters and were created during the Edo period from 1600 - 1650.
