Gorge waterfall created from heavy winter runoff by Owasco Lake NYS series 5 #306056508
Description

The Finger Lakes are a group of 11 long and narrow lakes in central New York that were formed by glaciers during the last ice age. The lakes are surrounded by hills and valleys that collect snow and rain throughout the year. When winter comes, the snow accumulates on the ground and forms a thick layer of frozen water. As the temperature rises in spring, the snow melts and flows into the lakes, creating a large amount of runoff. This runoff then travels through the creeks and streams that connect the lakes, carving out deep and narrow gorges along the way. The gorges are filled with waterfalls that vary in size and shape, depending on the volume and speed of the runoff. Owasco Lake is east of Cayuga Lake in the FingerLakes.
