Located at the foot of the Alcazaba fortress, the Roman Theater of Malaga is one of the city's oldest monuments, built in the early 1st century BC. by Emperor Caesar Augustus. Over the centuries this historic place remained hidden under the streets and houses until it was rediscovered in 1951. Currently, the theater is one of the main tourist attractions of the city as well as an important reminder of the Roman presence in the area.
