Anhinga resting in a tree in the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples, Florida. #307329593
Description
Pictured is an anhinga resting in a tree in the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples, Florida. The binomial name is Anhinga anhinga. It is also called the snakebird, American darter, or water turkey. The origin of the name is apparent when swimming: only the neck appears above water, so the bird looks like a snake ready to strike. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary has the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America.
