Pictured is a common whimbrel perched on leafless trees partially submerged at the edge of Chokoloskee Bay. The common whimbrel, binomial name Numenius phaeopus, is also known as the white-rumped wimbrel in North America. Chokoloskee Bay is roughly 10 miles long and 2 miles wide and is located along Florida's Gulf Coast. It is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the Ten Thousand Islands.
