Description
Peking University is the first national comprehensive university in China, and was initially the highest education administrative agency in the country. Established in 1898 during the Reform Movement, it was initially named the Capital University. In 1912, it was renamed National Peking University. In 1938, it moved to Kunming and was renamed as National Southwest Associated University. In 1952, it became a comprehensive university with a focus on basic humanities and sciences. As the center of the New Culture Movement and the birthplace of the May 4th Movement, Peking University is the birthplace of the earliest spread of Marxism and democratic scientific ideas in China, and the original important activity base of the CPC. Peking University has made outstanding contributions to the revitalization and liberation of the nation, the construction and development of the country, and the civilization and progress of society, and has played an important vanguard role in the process of China's modernization.
