Female anhinga sitting in the trees next to Shark Valley Trail in the Everglades National Park in Florida. #309181552
Description
Pictured is a female anhinga sitting in the trees next to Shark Valley Trail in the Everglades National Park in Florida. The female anhinga is similar to the male except for its light brown head, neck, and upper chest compared to the male's black color. The binomial name is Anhinga anhingha. It is also called the snakebird, American darter, or water turkey. The origin of the name is apparent when the bird is swimming. Only the neck appears above water, so the bird looks like a snake ready to strike.
