The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture and is regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. The mausoleum is located in a garden complex that includes a mosque and a guest house, and is surrounded by a red sandstone wall.
