Description
The Scream (Norwegian Skrik) is the name of an expressionist painting, versions of which were created from 1893 to 1910, and which is Edvard Munch's most famous painting. Existing versions are owned by the Norwegian National Gallery, the Munch-museet in Oslo, and the third is privately owned there is also a lithographic version. The painting captures a figure disfigured by a scream with a bald skull against the background of a stylized landscape and a bloody sky. With the theme of "bloody sky", the painting belongs to the triple variation of Hopelessness - Scream - Anxiety. The Scream has been the target of professional art thieves several times.
