Description
Devin Castle is one of Nitra and Bratislava Castle the oldest historically documented castles in Slovakia. Entitled Dowina mentioned in the Fulda annals of 864 is located at the confluence of the Danube and Morava place inhabited since prehistoric times, part of the border defense system Limes Romanus, important Great Moravian defensive strength, Rastislavova princely fortress. In the 13th century the middle and upper castle, further adjustments were made ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹in the second half of the 16th century, in 1809, the castle was destroyed by Napoleon's troops. Since the 30's, 20 century are carried out archaeological research in different parts of the castle are marked, plans of buildings. In the basement of the castle is the central exhibition hall, the upper part of the castle are partly covered cave. As a reminder of the historic trip Slovak youth Devin organized by Louis Stur, there is a plaque. in 1961 was declared a national cultural monument.
